HR Green was retained by the McHenry County Conservation District to provide the Winding Creek Conservation Area site design and construction documents for improvements at this 358-acre parcel, located along Nippersink Creek in Hebron Township, Illinois. The District acquired this property due to its high-quality native oak savannahs and extensive hydrologic features.
The Winding Creek Conservation Area contains quality wetlands, a pond, the Nippersink Creek corridor, and agricultural fields. HR Green helped the District to develop phased plans for the property which rehabilitated the site, highlighting existing natural features, and creating recreational open space opportunities in a part of the County where very few existed. As part of the plan, nearly 200 acres of the property will be improved with a shelter, three separate parking lots, a restroom facility, 20 camp sites, and nearly a mile of hiking trails.
HR Green coordinated much of the permitting for these improvements with the Army Corps of Engineers, the Illinois EPA, the County, and local Township, as well as providing the District with assistance during project bidding and construction.
