HR Green prepared and submitted an Open Space Land Acquisition & Development (OSLAD) grant application to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for matching funds and the development of Sprenger Park. The Village of Antioch was subsequently awarded a $283,250 grant through these efforts which helped to fund the development of a 41.9-acre neighborhood park site that was abandoned by a developer during an economic recession.
HR Green developed plans, specifications, and bid documents for the park improvements which included a baseball/softball field, a combination soccer/football field, tennis courts, a park pavilion, picnic area, a basketball court, fishing pier, wetland observation patio, parking lot expansion and an extension of the existing trail system with an interpretive signage program. The Sprenger Park improvements have dramatically increased and upgraded the recreational opportunities in the NeuHaven Community, as well as the eastern side of the Village which was under-served. In addition, the trail system extensions have created safer circuits for walking and running for the residents of Antioch to utilize.
