Erin Hills Park is the third park that the Village of Homer Glen, Illinois, developed as part of its commitment to improving the parks and recreation experiences within the Village limits. It was partially funded by an Illinois OSLAD Grant.
Located in the underserved residential area near 143rd Street, Erin Hills Park improvements included a new trail circuit, a park shelter, plaza areas constructed of permeable pavers, three playgrounds, a putting green, and observation and boardwalk decks along the Long Run Seep Nature Preserve. The park promotes conservation education through the boardwalk experience and an interpretive signage program.
Located in an ecologically unique area, the interpretive signage increases awareness of the sensitive ecosystems, endangered species, and how best management practices can help protect the surface and groundwater vital to the area. HR Green coordinated all park improvements to ensure they conformed to the approved concept plan to receive the grant’s match funding. The proposed amenities were selected to match the Village’s existing parks to create continuity and minimize maintenance efforts.
