Del Webb The Woodlands is a nearly 200-acre, active adult, master-planned community comprised of 570 single-family homes. HR Green’s Landscape Architectural Services included: community visioning and theming; community entry feature/arrival experience design; model home park enhancements; community entry gates; marketing and wayfinding signage; recreation center site design, individual neighborhood entry experience, and common area landscape design.
HR Green designers focused on creating a high-quality, resort-style, active adult residential community that blends with the surrounding character of The Woodlands, Texas while using contemporary architectural themes to set the community apart from neighboring development. Many of the architectural details, plants, and material selections used throughout the project were inspired by a local, rustic influence, with a modern twist. The use of stone outcroppings amplifies the natural feel, while crisp horizontal layers and angled shapes accent masonry elements that showcase a more contemporary, novel design approach.
HR Green also designed preserved environmental enhancement areas and pedestrian experiences. A primary focus was to introduce and reestablish a forest ecosystem in the community, that the Woodlands is known for, which included heavy plantings of pines and native deciduous trees, the preservation of some 100+-year-old pecan trees, dense understory trees, woodland shrubs, and large massings of grasses and perennial colors at key focal points.
At the Recreation Center, HR Green provided strategic site design taking advantage of the views overlooking the natural detention and preserved wetland areas. Site amenities included underground utilities, a parking lot, site lighting, tennis, bocce, and pickleball courts, pedestrian circulation and gathering areas, site furnishings, and planting design.
