HR Green performs bridge safety inspections for the City of Rockford, Illinois as its Program Manager. The city encompasses more than 60 square miles and is bisected by the Rock River. These biennial bridge safety inspections include more than 100 structures, ranging from culverts to all spans over the Rock River.
HR Green helps city staff determine priorities for maintenance and for inclusion in their capital improvement program. Each bridge safety inspection summary describes bridges in need of repairs, the scope of repairs needed, and budget estimates of repair costs for structures with low sufficiency ratings.
Additionally, biennial inspections include updating the existing Bridge Inspection Database and completion of the structure information system Routine Inspection Forms, Special Feature Inspection Forms, and Underwater Inspection Forms for submittal to the Illinois Department of Transportation. HR Green also provides required Element Level Inspections for a dozen structures on the National Highway System.
For bridges over the Rock River, HR Green prepares underwater contour drawings adjacent to all bridge piers. The contours are mapped by hydrographic soundings, correlated with GPS, and verified/supplemented with rod soundings.
