The I-29 corridor reconstruction project begins at the Iowa/South Dakota State Line, and extends south/southeast (through the Sioux City) a little over 11 miles, to end less than a mile south of the interchange for the City of Sergeant Bluff and the Sioux Gateway Airport. The project will improve safety, traffic operations, and infrastructure conditions, and provide for enhanced driver expectancy.

The I-29 I-29 corridor reconstruction project, which consists of the reconstruction of the existing interstate from 4-lanes to 6-lanes, began with NEPA/EIS studies and a Location Study. Construction has continued simultaneously within 3 different segments of the corridor through the present. All construction north and south of Sioux City should be complete, and the remaining reconstruction projects will be located along with the Downtown Commercial District. The Final Construction Project Award is anticipated for 2019, with construction being completed in the 2020 time frame.
